ATC

Ceftavibac is an antibiotic containing two active substances: ceftazidime and avibactam.
- Ceftazidime belongs to the class of antibiotics known as cephalosporins. It is capable of killing many types of bacteria.
- Avibactam is a "beta-lactamase inhibitor" that helps ceftazidime kill certain bacteria that are otherwise resistant to it.
Indications for use
Ceftavibac is used in adults and children aged 3 months and older to treat the following conditions:
- complicated intra-abdominal infections (in combination with metronidazole); complicated urinary tract infections, which may affect the urethra and bladder, as well as the ureters and kidneys (pyelonephritis);
- pneumonia caused by bacteria acquired in a hospital setting (hospital-acquired pneumonia), including ventilator-associated pneumonia;
- infections caused by bacteria against which other antibiotics are inactive or cannot be used.
Ceftavibac is used in adults to treat bloodstream infections associated with intra-abdominal infections, urinary tract infections, or pneumonia.
