EMPAZOKS contains the active substance empagliflozin, which belongs to a group of medicines called sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors.

What EMPAZOKS is used for:

Type 2 diabetes

  • EMPAZOKS is used to treat type 2 diabetes in adults and children aged 10 years and older when the condition is not adequately controlled by diet and exercise alone.
  • EMPAZOKS can be used on its own in patients who cannot take metformin (another medicine for diabetes).
  • EMPAZOKS can also be used in combination with other medicines for diabetes. These may be medicines taken by mouth or given by injection, such as insulin.

EMPAZOKS works by blocking the SGLT2 protein in your kidneys. This causes sugar (glucose) to be removed from your blood via your urine. In this way, EMPAZOKS lowers the amount of sugar in your blood.
This medicine may also help prevent heart disease in patients with type 2 diabetes.
It is important that you continue to follow the diet and exercise plan advised by your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.

Heart failure

  • EMPAZOKS is used to treat heart failure in adults with symptoms caused by impaired heart function.

Chronic kidney disease

  • EMPAZOKS is used to treat chronic kidney disease in adults.
