TAMICOLD contains oseltamivir, which belongs to a group of medicines called neuraminidase inhibitors. They prevent the influenza virus from spreading within the body and help to alleviate or prevent the symptoms of influenza infection.
Influenza is an infection caused by a virus. Signs of influenza often include fever (above 37.8°C), cough, runny or stuffy nose, headache, muscle pain, and severe fatigue. These symptoms can also be caused by other infections. True influenza infection is anticipated during annual outbreaks (epidemics) associated with the spread of the virus. Outside of epidemic periods, influenza-like symptoms are usually caused by other illnesses.
TAMICOLD is prescribed:
- to adults and children, including full-term infants, for the treatment of influenza;
- to adults and children aged one year and older for the prevention of influenza (post-exposure prophylaxis) after contact with someone suffering from influenza;
- to children under 1 year of age for the prevention of influenza (post-exposure prophylaxis) after contact with someone suffering from influenza during an influenza pandemic outbreak.
